AAVSO ALERT NOTICE 264 (December 2, 1999)
1918+04 NOVA AQUILAE 1999 NUMBER 2
We have been informed by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (IAU
Circular 7323 - http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html) that AAVSO observer
and visual nova searcher Alfredo Pereira, Cabo da Roca, Portugal, discovered
a bright nova in Aquila on Dec. 1.785 UT at about visual magnitude 6.0. His
discovery was made during his visual search of the area using 14x100
binoculars.
Visual confirmation was made by C. Vitorino, Cabo da Roca, Portugal, who
observed the nova on Dec. 1.819 at magnitude 5.9 (IAU Circular 7323).
Additional confirming observations were made by D. Green, Cambridge, MA, on
Dec. 1.939 at magnitude 5.1 (IAU Circular 7323); and D. di Cicco, Sudbury, MA,
on Dec. 1.95 at CCD magnitude 5.2 (IAU Circular 7323).
A precise position of N Aql 99#2 was reported by D. di Cicco as:
R.A. = 19h 23m 05.38s Decl.= +04 degrees 57' 20.1" (Equinox 2000.0)
Observations reported to the AAVSO include: Dec. 1.813, 5.8, Pereira (IAU
Circular 7323); 1.842, 5.8, Vitorino (IAU Circular 7323); 1.843, 5.8, Pereira
(IAU Circular 7323); 1.954, 5.5, M. Mattei, Littleton, MA; 1.958, 5.6, G.

Lakewood, CA; 2.208, 4.9, H. Dahle, Honolulu, HI.
Accompanying is an AAVSO "aa" scale preliminary chart prepared by C. Scovil.
Please use this chart to observe 1918+04 N Aql 99#2 and report your
observations to AAVSO Headquarters so we may inform the astronomical community.
Please be sure to indicate which comparison stars you used to make your
estimates.
Congratulations to Alfredo on his discovery!
