I am Richard Arvedson. Soon I will be a retired teacher and I want to try to make some observations of variable stars. I am a deep sky observer but I now live in a light polluted city (Houston, TX)
Are there stars that are suggested for beginners? Thanks.

We do have a list of stars that are easy to find, easy to observe and cover a range of brightness and location on the sky. You will find the list here:
