I observed R Scuti this Summer with my binoculars (10x50), but couldn't find it last week. I assumed it was at a minimum and planned to take my small refractor (80/640) out this week.
However, I plotted the light curve today and found it is going fast to an all-time minimum!
Understanding what is happening is well beyond my astronomy level. Is the behaviour inside the expected range? Any official theory from professional astronomers?
still within prior behavior. over the last few nights I have not seen it below 8.4. i see other estimates approaching 9 so I will keep watching
Thank you! I see the light curve is going up again. It's spectacular!
Is there any other visual variable (brighter than 9.0) with so much amplitude?
