For the International Year of Light, we asked for our observers to share with us why the love the night sky - what motivates them to go outside braving cold and mosquitos, and take data on their favorite variable stars. For me, observing and studying variable stars gives me a sense of where I belong in the universe - a lesson on humility. And I love trying to solve nature's mysteries, even if it takes my whole life to understand only one small part of them.
