I have not been able to find out much info on this variable. It is listed as a "cv" in VSX, but there is no info on its outburst brightness, nor its discovery date. Haven't found much on the internet either, excepting a VSNET post of a likely false detection by ASAS in 2008. Is this a variable or constant star?

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

2QZ J221856.4-281618 comes from the southern 2dF spectroscopic redshift survey, which mostly targeted quasars and was completed in 2002.  It is listed in the catalog as a NELG (narrow emission line galaxy); later researchers decided to call it a CV.  As far as I know, it has never been seen in outburst and so its classification is still uncertain.

Mike, The home page for that website

http://www.2dfquasar.org

gives links to the background of the 2dF survey.  The spectroscopic catalog is linked from there.  A Google search then gives the ASAS false detection and the fact that the Integral CV working group added it to their list of targets.  The Downes catalog just lists it as a possible CV.  With so many other good CVs that have a lack of observations, I personally wouldn't devote much time to these possible candidates.
