Hello everyone,
I'm starting to plan my first photometric observations and use as a reference, of course, the irreplaceable chart generated by the AAVSO VSP. There are some things that I have not well understood. In the upper left corner of each chart, among other data is the data: period. This information should indicate the period measured or imputed variable star in question. That's right? So why when I see the chart, such as the RX And, I read the period 0.209893 days, while the period of RX And it should be about 14 days?
Thank you all for the clarification.
The period for RX And that you see on the chart is the orbital period (Porb), which is 5.04hrs or 0.21d. I think the general rule for chart information is Porb for CV's and the period from one minimum to the next for Mira stars, SR's etc. The latter should of course only be used as a guide, as should any outburst period you see for DNe.
Good luck,
Gary [PYG]
Ok Gary, thank you. I had thought of something like that, but I was not sure. Now with your confirmation is all clear! Thanks!
