Variable Star observer since 1975. Past Director of the British Astronomical Association Variable Star Section (BAAVSS). Currently co-ordinator of the BAAVSS Recurrent Objects Programme and Long Term Polar Monitoring Programme. BAAVSS web master. Joint co-ordinator of AAVSO CV section (CVnet) along with Mike Simonsen. Editor of the Variable Star pages of 'The Astronomer' magazine. Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Recipient of the BAA's 'Steavenson' award and BAAVSS 'Butterworth' award. AAVSO Directors award in 2003.
