Now that it has reached magnitude 4.4 visual, Nova Del is eligible for the nova Hall of Fame. There are only 29 recorded novae that have peaked brighter than this, and Nova Del may not be done yet. Here are the top 35 in order from brightest to faintest. I wonder where Nova Del 2013 will end up on this greatest hits list.

Thanks for posting this, Mike! For those of us who haven't had a chance yet to observe the nova directly, this gives us a perfect 'big picture'! I'm going after it myself tonight.

Yes, it especially gives the big picture of where the nova is located in respect to our galaxy! Keep in mind, this view is from latitude 20N, so may need to adjust to your particular location. Worsening moonlight this weekend may also cause problems for naked eye observers.

Fading already?

I was able to get my first look at the nova tonight. It seemed to be 4.9 mag. in binoculars though there was a lot of bright moonlight in the sky. I glanced at other recent estimates and it seems to be fading already, though it was still thrilling. The brightest nova I've seen personally!
