The Annual Report of the AAVSO describes the activities of the AAVSO over the past fiscal year, and provides general information about the organization.
The AAVSO has joined Astronomers Without Borders to support them during their GAM (Global Astronomy Month) activities.
AAVSO Communications was launched in March 2015. The purpose of this monthly email is to highlight new initiatives and ongoing projects in a concise way which we hope you will find informative. Sometimes there is just so much going on that it is hard to keep track of it all. We hope that AAVSO Communications will make it easier for you to see what is happening and follow the links to read more about what interests you.

The American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) and the British Astronomical Association Variable Star Section (BAAVSS) are pleased to announce that the variable star observation archive of the BAAVSS is now available through the website of the AAVSO. The BAAVSS archives comprise over 2.5 million variable star observations made mostly by amateur astronomers world-wide over the past 150 years. These data now join the archives of the AAVSO in the AAVSO International Database, which consists of over 25 million variable star observations made by observe
AAVSO Councillor Kevin Paxson has completed and presented the results of the AAVSO's survey of the professional astronomical community. The AAVSO solicited participation from professional astronomers in an online survey early this year, and the results are now available in both raw and summarized form, with commentary and analysis from Kevin. The results were presented at the 2013 Spring Meeting of the AAVSO, and the final reports are now available here.
We are pleased and proud that AAVSO Council member Dr. Chryssa Kouveliotou has been elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences.
2012 was another good year for science generated by the international variable star community, and your efforts played a role in helping advance the science of variable star astronomy. The AAVSO as an organization continued to play a major role in providing access to amateur and professional data archives, along with providing new means to obtain observations (via AAVSOnet) and publish results (via the Journal of the AAVSO).
