Alert Notice 649: Dwarf nova outburst of GK Per (N Per 1901)

Note: Although this outburst of GK Per has been over for some time, ongoing good coverage is requested.  -  Elizabeth O. Waagen, 13 April 2020

August 24, 2018: The old nova GK Per (N Per 1901), which has dwarf nova (minor) outbursts, appears to be going into outburst, according to observations reported to the AAVSO. Recent observations include:

Alert Notice 159: Minor Outburst of 0324+43 GK Persei (Nova Per 1901) AND 1221+09 Supernova in NGC 4411B

AAVSO ALERT NOTICE 159 (July 7, 1992)

MINOR OUTBURST OF 0324+43 GK PERSEI (NOVA PER 1901)

Special Notice #26: Possible Minor Outburst of 0324+43 GK Persei

December 15, 2006

Coordinates: 03:31:11.82 +43:54:16.8 (2000.0)

Recent observations of the old nova intermediate polar magnetic catclysmic variable GK Per (Nova Per 1901) show the star brighter than minimum. However, it is too early to tell if an outburst is underway.

Special Notice #198: Possible Outburst of GK Per

March 9, 2010: The old nova (1901) and x-ray source GK Per may be going into outburst. Reports beginning late on 2010 March 6 UT show it brightening from its minimum visual magnitude of about 13.1 to 12.3-12.4.

When GK Per went nova in 1901, its disk was destroyed. Eventually the disk was re-established, and dwarf nova-like outbursts were observed.
