Silent Auction Items for the 105th Annual Meeting, November 2016
Bidding in a silent auction is done privately via pre-printed sheets of paper set up at the auction table. You may bid on multiple items at once. Afterward, the written bids are examined and the person who bid the highest for each item claims and pays for that item.
Please keep in mind that this is a fundraising event. Items are usually purchased for prices exceeding the item’s retail value. Please be generous. All the proceeds go directly to the general fund and support critical AAVSO operations.
Friedrich Wilhelm August Argelander is generally considered the father of variable star astronomy. He was the first astronomer to begin a careful study of variable stars. At the time, only a handful of variables were known, and he was responsible for introducing the modern system of naming them using the capital letters R-Z.
