Special Notice #83: X-ray Transient/Nova = V598 Pup; Possible Nova in Ser [V535 Ser]

November 20, 2007

1. X-ray Transient/Nova = V598 Pup

Further to AAVSO Special Notices #81 and #82, Nikolai Samus, Institute of Astronomy, Russian Academy of Sciences, announced (IAU Circular No. 8898, D. W. E. Green, ed.) that the bright x-ray transient and apparent nova has been assigned the name V598 Puppis [07:05:42.7 -38:14:42 (equinox 2000.0)].

Special Notice 41x: QX Pup maximum offers observing opportunity

April 21, 2016:  The Mira variable QX Pup (12.4-12.8 I - 14.5-14.7 I) is approaching maximum and was magnitude 13.038 I +/-0.026 on April 16.9723 UT (HMB, J. Hambsch, Mol Belgium). This star is the target of an observing exercise initiated by Arne Henden in 2008 to determine fundamental information on it (http://www.aavso.org/qx-pup).

R Aqr

December 1, 2015

The long period variable R Aquarii is an extremely interesting system. Its type is both Mira (M) and symbiotic (ZAND) - R Aqr is a close binary system consisting of a hot star and a late-type star, both enveloped in nebulosity. In the case of R Aqr, the late-type star is a Mira. As a result, the very interesting light curve shows not only the Mira pulsation but also eclipses as the two stars interact.
